DES and Cancer - Use of DES (diethylstilbestrol) during pregnancy has been associated with development of clear cell cancer of the vagina, and possibly with other diseases such as endometriosis. A study (ICDB/95609330) carried out in mice lends further support confirming the carcinogenicity of DES in an experimental situation. Male and female mice from the matings of treated animals were followed until they were 19-24 months of age. There was a statistically significant increased incidence of malignant tumors of the reproductive tract in both female and male DES descendants, in particular, uterine and vaginal adenocarcinomas, and rat testes adenocarcinoma.
