Summary

Several major studies were discussed. They included: cancer incidence as related to occupation in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, covering 10 million people; a Canadian study measuring EMF exposures of electrical utility workers employed at Ontario Hydro; a large multicenter case-control study of children with neuroblastoma as related to parental occupation; an Italian study setting up a frequency distribution of various risk factors, including EMF exposure, for leukemia, and a Spanish study reporting on brain cancer and occupational exposures. A Canadian study examined possible occupational risk factors for thyroid cancer. Current opinions on the causes, risk factors, treatment, and management of germ cell cancer were summarized and discussed. Ten epidemiological studies examining VDT use and adverse pregnancy outcome were reviewed. Other topics included the potential neurological and behavioral effects of EMF exposure, effects of EMFs from magnetic resonance imaging and induction heaters on immune system function, and the question of whether occupational information on death certificates is of any value in addressing occupational exposures and disease.
