BENER Digest UpdateInstructions to Authors | |
BENER Digest Update is seeking original manuscripts for publication in print and electronic form on our Web site. Of primary interest are critical reviews of a body of work relevant to the biological effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. Reviews may summarize research done by the author, focus on a specialized topic area related to a specific research topic, or provide a new perspective on a more general subject of interest to the bioelectromagnetics community. Outlines of the intended subject matter of the article may be submitted to the editor for approval before preparing the manuscript. BENER Digest Update deals with the biological effects of non-ionizing electric and magnetic fields ranging in frequency from static fields (0 Hz) to extremely high radiofrequency radiation (3000 GHz), excluding the domains of visible light, ultraviolet radiation, and ultrasound. Papers are welcome on experimental or clinical topics.
Manuscripts must be in the English language, complete, clearly written, and fully referenced. Because the readers of BENER Digest Update come from many disciplines, we encourage authors to provide clear explanations of all specialized technical terms and discuss their work in a way that is clear to the nonspecialist. Tables and figures are welcome. While figures will look better on the web in color, they will also be published in black and white or gray scale in print and therefore color figures must use colors which when translated to gray scale will be legible. A well-written paper should not exceed 10 printed pages (approximately 8,000 words) excluding figures and references. Longer papers will be considered if the scope of the subject matter warrants greater length.
ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION: Text and figures should be submitted in electronic form if possible, in a format which is compatible with common word processors such as Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, or as an ASCII text file. Electronic submissions should preferrably be made by e-mail as a file attachment, but should be followed with a printed copy. Printed copy should be double spaced and cleanly typed, or printed using a standard letter quality type (10-12 characters per inch). Electronic submissions may alternately be on a MS-DOS/Windows formatted diskette accompanied by a printed copy (both versions should be identical).
TITLE PAGE: This page should contain a brief but informative full title, a short running title to be used on page headers, the names and complete institutional affiliations of all authors, and the name and address to be used for editorial correspondence and reprint requests. The corresponding author's telephone and fax numbers and e-mail address should be included, if available.
ABSTRACT: The abstract must be a factual condensation of the entire work in 300 words or less. In the case of experimental studies, the abstract should provide a clear description of primary approach, major findings, and conclusions. Reviews and theoretical discussions should provide an informative abstract which describes the subject of the review and major conclusions.
KEY WORDS: On the same page as the abstract, supply three to five words or short phrases that adequately index the subject matter of the manuscript. Do not repeat words used in the title.
TEXT: Articles should be organized into sections. Articles with experimental subject matter should be organized in the format of scientific papers (. e.g., Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and References). Reviews should follow a format appropriate to the material. Writing conventions should follow the recommendations of the CBE Style Manual, 6th Edition, published by the Council of Biology Editors, Inc., Chicago IL, USA. Authors should also follow the recommendations of the IUPAC and IUB commissions for nomenclature and abbreviations. Use of symbols and quantitative units of the International System of Units (S. I. units) is preferred.
PERMISSIONS: Materials taken from other sources must be accompanied by a written statement from both author and publisher giving permission to Information Ventures, Inc. for reproduction.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST: Authors should disclose at the time of submission any financial arrangement they may have with a company whose product figures prominently in the submitted manuscript or with a company making a competing product.
REVIEW OF MANUSCRIPTS: Manuscripts are examined by the editorial staff and may be sent to outside reviewers.
