The authors conducted a case-referent study of occupational cancer etiology in 7686 women (5714 cases, 1972 controls) in the Detroit area using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program of the Natl. Cancer Institute. Eleven cancer sites were evaluated: lung, colon, rectum, bladder, esophagus, liver, salivary gland, stomach, eye, melanoma of the skin, and mesothelioma. Among occupations with potential electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure, nonsignificant suggestions of risk were obtained for stomach cancer among women who were employed at one time as electrical workers.
