The Avon Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy & Childhood (ALSPAC) has collected health data on 11,292 mothers scheduled to give birth in a 20 month period in a defined area, the County of Avon. Pregnant mothers were given questionnaires to fill out at 16 weeks gestation and 8 weeks post-partum. Using a choice of cut-off points, the incidence of pre- and postnatal depression was correlated with distance of residence from 132 kV, 275 kV and 400 kV power lines. Other possible correlates to depression tested were "life events," education, social support and home ownership. The authors found a greater incidence of perinatal depression with residence within 100 meters of power lines at 132 kV and above. [BENER: 13841]

January 14, 2000 - Sabrina R. I am in my final year of physiotherapy training, and am presenting a project on PND for my women's health option module. Could you please email me the article asap as we have to submit our presentation soon. Thank you.

January 06, 2000 - Viktoria B. I am a mother of 9 month-old-boy. I would be greatful for any information on various studies carried out on postnatal depression. Thank you in advance.

January 05, 2000 - Linda M. I had an 8 month old baby (second child) when we moved into our curent home which is situated about 100mt from a power sub-station. Not long after moving in, I began experiencing symptoms of depession, which were later diagnosed as being post-natal, despite having no problems with depression at all until the baby was 8 months old and we moved into the house. I would be very interested in reading your findings in their entirety. Please advise me how to obtain a copy. Many thanks.

December 11, 1999 - Linda Compton I would be grateful if you could email me further information about this topic as I have had PND for a year. We live feet away from a power line that has this week been removed after a great deal of public pressure.

January 05, 1999 - Marjorie I am 15 weeks pregnant and my husband and I are seriously considering purchasing a home which has high tension wires running on the far side of the neighboring house, perhaps 150 feet away, maybe less. I am interested in looking at your study, both the results and the study itself. Please e-mail whatever you can, as soon as you can, as we will be putting in a bid rather soon. Thank you.

November 02, 1998 - Anita I'm 27 years old and have a baby boy who is now seven months old. I was diagnosed as suffering from postnatal depression just 5 weeks following my son's birth and I live just 150 yards away from power lines. I come from a nursing background and would be very interested to read your article. I look forward to hearing from you.

January 07, 1998 - Gail S. Reyes I am interested to read the whole text of your study. Please advice me on how to get a copy of it. I may include it in the related literature of my thesis for Graduate School. Thank you.

January 31, 1997 - Francesca degli Espinosa I'm looking for information on various studies carried out on postnatal depression. Could you possibly give me any information on your study correlating postpartum depression in proximity to high voltage power lines?
