Summary

A Danish study of 32,000 electrical utility workers exposed to 50-Hz magnetic fields is discussed followed by a review of occupational risk factors for central nervous system tumors which includes the question of an EMF-cancer association. A Swedish study is summarized of parental work in the power industry in relation to birth abnormalities and childhood cancer. A US study is summarized which examines a possible association between occupational EMF exposure, measured using computerized data collected by the US National Center for Health Statistics, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. These results are compared to a second analysis which examined dementia in relation to occupational magnetic field exposure. [two pages, 5 references].
