Summary

This article starts out with a discussion of a large review of studies to determine whether EMFs are genotoxic and a large update to that review recently published. A study is summarized in which the investigators found that acute exposure to a 60-Hz, 0.5-mT (5-G) MF for 2 hours produced DNA strand breaks in the brain cells of rats. That finding was followed up by the same authors with additional work. A study by a group from Tokyo Electric Power Co. investigated the non-lethal mutagenic potential of ELF magnetic fields in fruit flies. [two pages, 5 references].
