Summary

A report from the UK on a large-scale study of risk factors in childhood leukemia included a component investigating the relation between childhood cancer and exposure to power-frequency magnetic fields. The report is discussed in some detail in this article, as well as comments in an editorial by Michael Repacholi and Anders Ahlbom. Two Canadian studies are contrasted, both of which tried to measure increases in cancer risk associated with personal exposure to magnetic field levels. Both reports are discussed in detail leading into a discussion of wire codes. Risk indicators and magnetic field exposure associations were discussed in a third study. A fourth study by the Electric Power Research Institute which addresses wire codes, is summarized and discussed in relation to the first three studies. [six pages, 5 references].
