Summary

In work sponsored by the US EMF RAPID Program, three studies were discussed. First, a study was done to determine whether EMF can act as a co-promoter. Mice were treated with DMBA and TPA and then exposed to a 20-G, 60-Hz magnetic field. Various biomarkers of skin tumor promotion were examined. A second work assessed long-term reproductive toxicity of linearly polarized transient-free 60-Hz magnetic fields. The third work examined magnetic field effects on mammary tumor promotion. Two additional studies looked at the carcinogenic effects of a two-year exposure of rats to 60-Hz magnetic fields. An additional paper examined the role of genetic variation in developmental abnormalities produced in chickens by EMF exposure. [four pages, 14 references].
