The term "power frequency" refers to the alternating current (AC) frequencies used in the
generation of electricity, usually between 0 to 300 Hertz (Hz). The primary focus, however, is
on 60 Hz, the frequency that powers the electrical appliances and equipment we use everyday.
(Europeans use an alternating current of 50 Hz.) Hertz refers to the cycling time, that is the
current turns on and off 60 times a second.
