  • Biologist/Bioinformatics Specialist
    Information Ventures, Inc., is seeking an innovative scientist to contribute to a project to collect and organize information on animal models of human disease and implement contemporary, cutting-edge bioinformatics technologies to integrate models, data, and knowledge. Qualified candidates should have a thorough understanding of the use of animal models in biomedical research, expertise in bioinformatics, and familiarity with relevant ontologies and thesauri as demonstrated by educational background, recent experience, and publications in the field. Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in Biological Sciences and previous experience with in-vivo models of human disease, applying bioinformatics techniques for knowledge discovery, and database administration. Excellent communications skills and the ability to interact on a peer-to-peer basis with other experts in the field to obtain materials for inclusion in an electronic directory and Web portal are also required. Prior successful experience in project leadership and supervision of staff and/or collaborators is a plus.   • Biomedical Indexer
    Information Ventures, Inc., is seeking candidates with graduate level training and a strong scientific background are needed to index journal articles using National Library of Medicine (NLM) Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Successful candidates will be required to train and work up to 40 hours per week for 4-6 weeks on site at the NLM in Bethesda, Maryland under the guidance of an NLM senior staff member indexing biomedical journal articles. Following the training period, indexer will work at home for a minimum of 30 hours per week and meet with NLM staff once a week at NLM. We are seeking candidates who are able to devote more than 30 hours per week to indexing and have the potential to index at least 150-200 articles/week.   • Chemical Database Administrator
    Information Ventures, Inc. seeks an experienced Chemical Database Administrator for a project to update and manage chemical and biological databases that serve as tools for the selection and discovery of potential therapies for AIDS and opportunistic infections (OI). Qualified candidates will have an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Structural or Computational Chemistry with a focus on molecular modeling and drug design and a strong computer science background that includes chemical and biological database design, development and maintenance; Web application development and programming; and experience with Oracle®, MDL® Direct, MDL® QSAR, MDL® ISIS/Base, MDL® ISIS/Host, and Procite™ .   • Environmental Information Specialists
    Information Ventures, Inc. is seeking to staff a multidisciplinary project to update and maintain a scientific database on air pollutants. Project start date is Spring 2008. Minimum qualifications for all positions include demonstrated knowledge of the environmental fate and effects of air pollutants, ecology, ecotoxicology, toxicology, or epidemiology; a Masters Degree or better in a relevant scientific discipline; experience reviewing and analyzing scientific journal articles; the ability to recognize and extract key data and information; and excellent computer skills. Positions to be filled include Principal Investigator (must have Ph.D. and previous experience managing the updating and maintenance of scientific databases), senior editorial staff (must have Ph.D. and experience editing scientific data and information), and data extractors (must meet minimum qualifications stated above).   • Reproductive Toxicologist
    Information Ventures, Inc. is seeking a Reproductive Toxicologist to serve as Principal Investigator for a project to evaluate risks to human reproduction from exposure to environmental agents. Duties include compiling dossiers and literature packages on selected substances for review by expert panels, preparing and distributing draft and final study reports, providing support for expert panel meetings, and coordinating and directing the activities of project staff. Qualified candidates will have Ph.D. or M.D. in an appropriate biomedical discipline; experience in toxicology or related field (preferably reproductive toxicology), as demonstrated by work history and publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals; and experience reviewing and evaluating scientific information. Qualified candidates will have an advanced degree in Medicinal Chemistry/Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field; familiarity with research in the area of HIV and co-infections, antivirals, antimicrobials, in vitro assays, and animal models; experience using MDL® software; and experience conducting on-line literature searches of relevant chemical and biomedical databases. Must be able to attend scientific meetings, take notes, and prepare well-written, scientifically accurate reports of the proceedings. Topic areas could include bioethics, policy development, human specimen data, and patients confidentiality.   • Toxicologist
    Information Ventures, Inc. is seeking experienced Toxicologists to evaluate and interpret toxicology and carcinogenicity studies of selected chemicals and to write summary assessments. Ideal candidates will have an M.S. or Ph.D. in Toxicology or related field, experience with evaluation of scientific studies, and excellent technical writing skills. Candidates with strong project management skills and experience are also needed. Experience in reproductive toxicology is a plus. Candidates should have the demonstrated ability to work on and/or manage multiple priorities with tight timelines. Toxicologists will be members of a team that provides background information on the biologic effects of a particular substance or set of chemicals and full details on the conduct, results, and interpretation of short- and long-term studies of the effects of the test chemical(s) in rodents. Assessments will be multi-disciplinary and may include information on toxicology, animal physiology, histologic and clinical pathology, chemistry, genetics, statistics, pharmacology, molecular biology, immunology, neurotoxicology, reproductive toxicology, and genetic toxicology; descriptions of neoplastic or nonneoplastic lesions; results of hematology, clinical chemistry, and urinalyses; and studies of neurobehavioral effects, body burden, metabolism and disposition, and toxicokinetics.   • Web Developer
    Information Ventures, Inc. is seeking a skilled, innovative, and experienced Web Developer to assist in designing, developing, updating, maintaining, and coordinating internal and external Web sites for government clients. Duties will include developing and maintaining text, content, graphics, image maps, fillable forms, and simple database interfaces and creating navigation, content groupings, labels, site maps, etc. to meet the needs of various audiences. This position requires working closely with and strictly following guidelines and specifications provided by clients. Successful candidate will be required to undergo a background security investigation by agents of the U.S. government. Position expected to be available in June 2008. Responsibilities include: developing and coding websites and pages; preparing graphics for production from Adobe Photoshop templates; developing web forms and small applications; contributing to developing information architecture and testing usability of websites; consistently applying Web standards, styles, templates, and guidelines; providing innovative solutions for disseminating client information; and assuring compliance with accessibility requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Requirements include: college degree in Computer Science, Web Design, or Information Systems; two or more years of experience developing and coding websites and pages using cascading style sheet and templates; experience creating accessible PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat Professional a plus; working knowledge of best practices and accepted web standards for usability and accessibility, including Section 508; proficiency with HTML, CSS, and Javascript; knowledge of additional technologies such as .NET, Flash, PHP, SQL Server, MySQL, Documentum a plus; experience using Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Omniture SiteCatalyst, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and other web development and analytical tools; knowledge of optimization of graphics for the web; understanding of how to build effective site file structures for large-scale websites; familiarity with cross platform (IE, Firefox, Windows, Macintosh, etc.) issues, basic web server administration, and user interface design principles; good verbal and written communications skills; high attention to detail, and ability to work well independently with direction from others; and prior work on federal government or large corporate websites a plus.
