OCCUPATIONAL ALLERGY TO P-PHENYLENEDIAMINE IN MILK TESTERS

Allergy to p-phenylenediamine (PPD) was described in a 51 year old nonatopic female milk tester exposed daily to the chemical in her laboratory work. After 11 years of frequent manual contact with a 2% aqueous solution of PPD, she developed dermatitis on her hands, with occasional spreading to her arm and upper chest. She was given standard patch tests, which revealed hypersensitivity to PPD.
