INFLAMMATORY MARKERS IN NASAL LAVAGE FLUID FROM INDUSTRIAL ARTS TEACHERS

The effects of wood dust exposure on the nasal epithelium were studied in 24 male industrial arts (IA) instructors in Stockholm, Sweden and 24 matched referents. IA teachers had an increased frequency of upper airway complaints, particularly nasal obstruction and nasal drip, compared with the referents. The complaints increased during working days and decreased on days off. IA teachers demonstrated a positive correlation between albumin level, percentage of lymphocytes, and percentage of neutrophils and number of classes taught.
