ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS AND BRAIN TUMOURS: A COMMENTARY

Human and animal evidence accumulated since 1979 linking electromagnetic fields (EMF) with brain cancer was reviewed and discussed. Epidemiological evidence has indicated a possible link between EMF exposure and gliomas, but animal experiments have not strongly confirmed an association. Several industries have a disturbingly high rate of brain tumors, including rubber, oil, plastics, petrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals industries. Some epidemiological studies have found an association of EMF with leukemia, urinary tract cancers, or brain tumors. The direct cause of the vast majority of gliomas is unknown.
