LATEX HYPERSENSITIVITY: AN IATROGENIC AND OCCUPATIONAL RISK

Latex hypersensitivity, with emphasis on iatrogenic and occupational risks, was discussed. Specific topics addressed included prevalence of latex hypersensitivity, signs and symptoms of latex hypersensitivity, risk for latex allergy, and prevention and implications. The authors conclude that latex hypersensitivity is a problem in the healthcare environment; further research is needed on demographic, behavioral, environmental, and biogenetic factors associated with latex hypersensitivity.
