A cross sectional study was conducted to analyze the factors associated with musculoskeletal system complaints among female personnel involved in home health care. A total of 97 women participated. A questionnaire was distributed to obtain data on sociodemographic variables and physical complaints from nine anatomical regions of the body. Indices for musculoskeletal complaints, other symptoms, ergonomic factors, and physical and psychosocial work environment were included. The subjects were divided into a complaint group, young group, and healthy group. The complaint group had the highest scores on nearly all of the constructed indices, but had a shorter working time per week than the two other groups. The young group had the most negative perception of the psychosocial work environment. The healthy group generally perceived the situation the best. The authors conclude that work related interventions and rehabilitation programs undertaken for the complaint group should be designed in another way and with other goals than those presently directed towards the other two identified groups.
