VIRAL HEPATITIS. CURRENT CONCEPTS FOR DENTAL PRACTICE

A review was conducted on the diagnosis, clinical features, management, transmission and epidemiology of the known hepatitis virus forms. In dentistry, the risk of transmission of hepatitis virus from practitioner to patient was greatest for hepatitis-B virus (HBV), and notably lower for the other forms. Recorded cases exist for transmission of HBV and hepatitis-D virus from patient to practitioner, but the risk of such transmission is not considered to be excessive. Of the hepatitis viruses, HBV is considered the greatest threat to dental workers.
