Hand dexterity was studied in 15 workers who sustained four or more needlestick or sharps injuries from 1988 through 1990 and in 19 workers with no injury history. No significant differences were observed in regard to age, or years of employment in the two groups. The Purdue Pegboard test was used to evaluate hand dexterity. There were no significant differences between the two groups in hand dexterity. The authors conclude that the repeated needlestick injuries were not explained by lack of hand dexterity in health care workers.
