EPIDEMIOLOGY OF HAND DERMATITIS IN DENTAL PERSONNEL

The causes of hand dermatitis and frequency rate of allergic contact dermatitis among Air Force dental personnel were examined. Interviews and examinations were performed on 120 positive respondents to distributed surveys regarding hand dermatitis. The frequency of hand dermatitis in this study population (37.6%) was consistent with that in previous studies. The authors concluded that the majority of hand dermatitis occurring in this group was due to irritant contact dermatitis and suggest that hand washing may be the primary cause.
