GLOVE-INDUCED DERMAL AND RESPIRATORY SYMPTOMS AMONG HEALTH CARE WORKERS IN ONE FINNISH HOSPITAL

A total of 534 employees at the Oulu University Hospital, Finland, responded to a survey concerning occupational glove use. At least one dermal symptom from natural rubber latex (NRL) gloves was reported by 44% of the workers, and by 21% wearing vinyl gloves. Skin disorders were most prevalent among physicians and least prevalent among housekeepers. Rhinorrhea or nasal congestion was reported by 10% of the NRL users and 6% of the vinyl glove users. The authors conclude that the reported skin and respiratory disorders were related to the duration of daily glove usage.
