PRINCIPLES OF PREVENTION OF NECK-AND-SHOULDER PAIN

The prevention of neck and shoulder pain was considered. Topics addressed included problems involved in study design, ways in which to measure outcomes, setting of realistic goals for the preventive intervention, determining limiting values, identifying confounders, risk factor reduction, preventive measures taken, and health promoting measures which can also be used. Preventive measures include recommendations based on load and duration limits, ergonomic interventions, movement training, organization of the work, psychosocial environment, elimination of accidents, and the promotion of good health. The authors suggest that the focus should be more individually based using preventive principles on the problem causing the neck and shoulder pain so that the subject can return to work.
