OCCUPATIONAL DERMATITIS FROM ETHYLENEDIAMINE

Contact dermatitis from exposure to ethylenediamine was described in a 39 year old female laboratory technician. The subject was occupationally exposed during her 13 years work for a pharmaceutical company where aminophylline tablets were manufactured. She exhibited recurrent eczema on the dorsa of the hands, forearms and eyelids over an 18 month span. She experienced improvement in her condition during vacations, but experienced relapse upon return to work. Patch tests with all components of the tablets were positive to 1% aminophylline and ethylenediamine.
