OSH-DB - Visitor Access
OSH-DBTM (Occupational Safety and Health Database) is a web accessible database with over 220,000 original abstracts covering virtually all aspects of the occupational safety and health field. Records contain original abstracts as well as complete bibliographic information. Documents represented in the database are from sources dating back to the early 1970s, as well as important articles from earlier literature, some dating back to the nineteenth century.
The basic sources for OSH-DBTM are approximately 160 core English-Language technical journals that provide the majority of records. Supplementing these are abstracts of U.S. government publications and selected articles from books, journals, and reports of special importance to the occupational safety and health field.
OSH-DBTM is produced by Information Ventures, Inc. (IVI), a Philadelphia based consulting/publishing firm. IVI is a former CDC/NIOSH contractor. From 1986 to 1998, IVI prepared and delivered monthly updates to NIOSH for the NIOSHTIC® database. In September 1998, NIOSH stopped updating the NIOSHTIC® database.
NIOSHTIC® database users have several options in choosing an occupational safety and health database provider. Some former or recent vendors of the now static NIOSHTIC® database are marketing it as if it is still being updated by NIOSH. One or more providers are updating the file with records from MEDLINE. What sets OSH-DBTM apart is that OSH-DBTM is produced by IVI, a group with 12 years of experience in screening, analyzing, and preparing original abstracts for the NIOSHTIC® database. OSH-DBTM is seamlessly built on top of the existing data that NIOSH no longer updates. It is a web-based database service with a lightening-fast text retrieval engine and comprehensive coverage of the scientific literature designed to meet the needs of the occupational safety and health community.
